In this episode of Cow Guy Close, I joined Scott Shellady for an important discussion about the SAVE Act, voter ID laws, and the growing controversy surrounding citizenship and voting rights.
Scott opened the show by pointing to claims on the ACLU’s website arguing that the SAVE Act would prevent millions of eligible voters from participating in our democracy because it requires in-person proof of citizenship and limits online and mail-in voter registration.
The real opposition to voter ID has always been about allowing non-citizens and ineligible voters, including felons, to vote.
I explain why the SAVE Act threatens the Democratic Party’s voting strategy, which has relied on removing safeguards like photo ID requirements, and why the influx of undocumented immigrants has always been connected to expanding the voting pool. Every vote cast by someone who is not legally allowed to vote dilutes the voice of American citizens. This conversation is about citizenship, sovereignty, and common sense—not race.
